Arona, December 11, 2025
Last night, the Centre for Tourist Initiatives (CIT) of Santa Cruz de Tenerife granted Hoteles Reverón the “Amables del Turismo y Convivencia Ciudadana 2025” award (Friends of Tourism and Citizen Coexistence 2025), the oldest award in the tourism sector in the Canary Islands, in its 43rd edition. The recognition honours the history of this almost centenary family business, which has been committed for decades to a model of tourism that is local, social, and deeply linked to the territory.
The award was received by Juan Francisco Reverón Sebares, the fourth generation of the family leading the business, on behalf of the entire family and the Hoteles Reverón team. For the Reverón family, this award represents recognition for decades of discreet effort, constant work, and a vocation of service towards those who visit the island and those who are part of the company’s workforce.
The origin of Hoteles Reverón dates back to Juan Reverón and his mother, Antonia Reverón Sierra, who opened Fonda Aeropuerto (Airport Inn), the first tourist complex in the south of Tenerife, in Los Cristianos, when it was still a small fishing village without running water, electricity, or basic infrastructure. That establishment, which later became a guesthouse and Hostal Reverón, not only offered accommodation but also provided essential services to local residents for decades.
The recognition also pays tribute to the work of Tina, Juan’s wife, and her sister Carmen, who sustained the family and the business after the founder’s early death. Tina stood out for her caring and welcoming nature, treating guests and employees as part of the family. Carmen was an example of effort and discipline, working seven days a week and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner to more than 150 people per shift. Her way of understanding work, excellence, and sacrifice continues to inspire the company’s service culture today.
The figure of Juan Francisco Reverón, son of Tina and Juan, represented the consolidation of the family project, combining his father’s entrepreneurial vision, his aunt Carmen’s determination, and his mother’s human touch. The current management, led by Juan Francisco Reverón Sebares, takes on the challenge of living up to that legacy, adapting it to modern times without giving up its family roots or its commitment to responsible tourism.
The family also emphasizes the importance of transmitting these values to new generations: respect for the visitor, recognition and care for the team, willingness to overcome difficulties, and the capacity to innovate and dream long-term, as keys to a project that is already approaching a century of history.
Hoteles Reverón wishes to express its gratitude to the CIT President, Miguel Ángel González Suárez, and his board of directors for granting the award; to the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, for the institutional welcome; and to the Vice President of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Minister of Tourism, Lope Afonso, for his presence and closeness during the event.
This award not only looks at the past that has sustained the growth of tourism in the south of Tenerife but also reinforces Hoteles Reverón’s commitment to a tourism model with soul, which generates coexistence, opportunities, and a sense of belonging for the island.
